Abadina College Old Students’ Association (ACOSA) was inaugurated on the 18th of December, 2004 at the CBN Hall, Faculty of Science, University of Ibadan by Bishop A. A. Omodunbi, who was Abadina College Principal from 1982 to 1987.

Dr. Ben Ohunrogu was nominated as the Chairman of the Caretaker Committee, while Niyi Adeola was the Vice Chairman. Collins Akhenemhen was the Secretary-general, Seun Odu, the Treasurer and Akin Olunloyo was the Publicity Secretary. The Caretaker Committee had the mandate to present to the General Assembly before the expiration of their tenure, a bylaw to guide the activities of the Association.

By 2006, elections took place and all those who served as members of the Caretaker Committe were returned as National Executive Committee Members of the Association to pilot the affairs of this great and noble association. They were in office till 2010 when another election took place.

During their tenure the association grew very strongly and held end-of-the-year get-together ceremonies, inviting some of our noble old teachers, such as Prof. Soji Adejumo, Mrs. Okwilagwe, and others to grace the occasions. The first Principal of Abadina College, Mr. A. A. Adeniran was also at the 30th Anniversary celebration of the school held by the Association at its secretariat in the school compound.

To the glory of God, the Association during this time was able to establish a permanent secretariat office in the premises of Abadina College. They were also able to attract some donations of computers from members based in the United Kingdom. Prof. Soji Adejumo also donated computers and a generating set to the association. God also used some members to reach out to the students through motivational talks and life-changing messages. Since the inception of ACOSA, tremendous progress has been recorded by the different National Executive Committees.

In the year 2010, the baton of leadership of the Association, as President of the National Executive Committee was handed over to Mr Basi Eteakamba Isong. He thus became the second President of ACOSA National Executive Committee.

Mr. Ahaneku, Chidi Peter, took over in December 2012, as President, National Executive Committee. During his tenure of 2 terms in office (2012 to 2018), ACOSA bridged the gap between the Association and the school. The National Executive Committee worked round the clock to restructure the Association and consolidate on the previous administration’s projects by retaining all performing Committee heads. They also attracted the donation of a computer/internet lab through a member 1992 set. This laboratory was powered by a solar panel with a standby 8KVA power generating set.

The Association has proudly distinguished itself with a new logo and motto “A Beacon of Hope”. The Prize giving day was resuscitated, free tutorial classes for the Senior Secondary 3 Students for 15 hours per week was also introduced. The successful design and upload of an interactive website for the Association was also implemented. The bringing together of various sets of ACOSA made for easy administration and infrastructural project implementation in the college.

It was during this period that the School celebrated its landmark anniversary of 40years in 2017. During this period also, the Association recorded tremendous success in the following areas:

  1. Renovation of the School’s Main Building
  2. Renovation of Block of eight classrooms
  3. Sinking of a solar-powered borehole for the school and Abadina community’s use
  4. Construction of ultra-modern 24 unit toilet facility for the students
  5. Changing of the school’s signpost.

At the Annual General Meeting held on the 8th of December, 2018, the tenure of the National Executive Committee led by Mr. Chidi Peter Ahaneku which was due to end on that day was given an extension till February 2nd, 2019.  At the first General meeting of the Association in February 2019, the National Executive Committee handed over to a Caretaker Committee headed by Dr. Jide Sokunbi. The Committee held forth for 90 days. The Committee’s mandate was to conduct elections to fill offices in the National Executive Committee of the Association. This election conducted in May 2019, ushered in the National Executive Committee led by Prof. Tunji Kehinde.

Long live Abadina College, U.I., Ibadan. Long live ACOSA!!
